The willingness to collaborate was expressed by Kenneth Gluck, advisor on conflict prevention and peace-building of the United Nations (UN) and Markus Behrend, Resident Coordinator in charge of UN Ecuador.

Both officials held a meeting with the Vice Minister of Government, Homero Castanier, to whom they ratified their support for the process derived from the signing of the Act for Peace, which put an end to the national strike held from June 13 to June 30, demanding answers from the Government to an agenda of 10 sensitive issues for the population.

The protest was called by the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador (CONAIE), together with the Council of Evangelical Indigenous Peoples and Organizations of Ecuador (Feine) and the National Confederation of Peasant, Indigenous and Black Organizations (Fenocin).

These three organizations were joined by groups of women, peasants, students, workers and housewives, who feel represented by the demands of the peoples and nationalities.

Lowering and freezing fuel prices, debt moratorium, credits, attention to agriculture, control of prices of agricultural products, stop the privatization of strategic sectors, generate jobs, budget for education and health, among others, are part of the requests delivered to the Executive since 2021, but without the expected results.
