Bolivian government warns of possible scheme by opposition politician

La Paz, Jul 13 (Prensa Latina) The Santa Cruz department opposition Governor Luis Fernando Camacho could cause a social upheaval in Bolivia by taking advantage of postponing the Population Census on Tuesday through 2024, the government warned on Wednesday.

Camacho, also protagonist of repression incidents during the 2019 coup d’état, would use such a strategy to confuse “before his null management, as a way of positioning himself politically,” Maria Nela Prada, Presidency Minister, stated.

It would not be strange for Camacho to cause an upheaval due to his incapacity in office, that is his way of life, he proved it before becoming governor and continues to prove it nowadays, Nela Prada told Bolivia TV.

The Presidency minister recalled that Camacho did not attend the twelfth session of the National Council of Autonomies, the isntitution responsible for Census suspension, although Prada called him “with due anticipation.” “It is clear, Prada underlined, that Camacho is not interested in management (inherent in his position as governor), coordination with other powers of the State, or agreement.”

The National Council of Autonomies unanimously decided on postponing the demographic count until the first half of 2024, based on suggestions in this regard by authorities from eight departments, but Santa Cruz.
