Government and indigenous sector of Ecuador set up dialogue tables

Ecuador, gobierno, movimiento, indígena, dálogo
Quito, Jul 13 (Prensa Latina) The Government of Ecuador and the indigenous sector launched a dialogue that seeks to address social demands that triggered the national strike less than a month ago.

The talks will be held for a period of 90 days at the headquarters of the Ecuadorian Episcopal Conference, which is acting as a mediator, in order to promote concrete results in an environment of peace and consensus.

A total of 10 technical tables were installed to deal with issues agreed between the parties, contained in the Act for Peace signed last June 30th, which brought an end to a protest that lasted 18 consecutive days, marked by police and army repression, denounced inside and outside the country.

Issues related to the specialized attention to fuel subsidies and the Public and Private Bank are a priority, as they are very sensitive for the indigenous movement and other social sectors that joined the mobilizations.

The rest of the technical tables are dealing with Productive Development, Employment and Labor Rights, Energy and Natural Resources, Collective Rights and Higher Education, Protection of National Investments, Price Control, and Access to Health and Safety.

Leaders of the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador, the Council of Evangelical Indigenous Peoples and Organizations of Ecuador and the National Confederation of Peasant, Indigenous and Black Organizations are participating in the dialogue.
