Audios broadcast by local media these days gave account of the plot hatched by the PP, when it was in power, a police commissioner and a well-known TV presenter to crush the existence of the young purple party, as Podemos is known.
Recordings made by the excomisario Jose Manuel Villarejo with politicians and journalists to undermine the profile of leaders and Podemos party in general, are unambiguously revealed in the audios.
Podemos, at the request of Pablo Iglesias, its current leader who retired from politics, Ione Belarra, and the second vice-president of the Government, Yolanda Diaz, asked Judge Manuel Garcia Castellon to investigate the published audios with conversations between Villarejo and the former secretary general of the PP Maria Dolores de Cospedal.
The newspaper El Pais was one of those that unleashed the scandal, publishing that in May 2017, Villarejo had a conversation with Cospedal, in which he assured her that he had “a colonel from the Venezuelan secret service who was going to give him some minutes where there were meetings of ETA with the Cuban secret service and with those of Podemos in Venezuela.”
Now Podemos asked the magistrate to incorporate to the case the recently published conversations between Villarejo and Cospedal, as well as between the ex-commissioner and the well-known journalist Antonio Garcia Ferreras.
As confirmed by the audios and concordant sources uncovered, the strategy was to “fabricate false reports and evidence” to “seek the ruin” of the party and Iglesias, who was vice president of Sanchez from 2020 to 2021.
