“I do not remember that a person that holds such high positions and was directly responsible for Washington’s international policy has spoken so openly about his participation in the planning of coups d’Etat in other countries,” Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said in an interview with Sputnik radio station.
The diplomat’s remarks are in response to Bolton’s comments made on Tuesday, where he told CNN Jake Tapper his personal contribution to the overthrow of foreign Governments, and assured that such projects require significant planning.
“His comments are a completely new revelation for a representative of the US foreign policy and require an investigation,” Zakharova said Wednesday.
In this regard, she added that this position taken by the former presidential adviser is far from the alleged support the “democratic forces” provided to the White House, as well as the contribution to the development of democracy and pluralism in other nations.
The Foreign Ministry spokeswoman insisted that the revelation made by Bolton demands a reaction, “because it is important to know in which other regions globally the United States was planning to carry out coups d’etat,” Zakharova said.
