It cannot be understood that a European country … in the 21st century has this mentality that there was no coup d’état. It is not understandable, Morales declared in an extensive interview published Thursday by the digital platform of investigative journalism Declassified UK.
According to the indigenous leader, who ruled the South American country from 2006 until he was ousted by the extreme right supported by the military in November 2019, the great powers believe that some countries are the property of others.
Interviewed by Declassified UK in Villa Tunari, the small town in the Bolivian Amazon where he has resided since the restoration of democracy to Bolivia in October 2020, Morales pointed out that this colonialist arrogance is the reason why rebellions and uprisings still occur.
For them, superiority, the ability to dominate, is the most important thing, added the former president, who pointed out that “unlike us, who are poor and humble people”, the great powers lack the principle of humanity and brotherhood.
The digital publication assured in March last year that the British government supported the coup against Morales, in exchange for access to the lithium reserves that the South American country possesses.
According to Declassified UK, which cited documents published by the UK Foreign Ministry, a month after the indigenous leader’s departure from power, London paid a company based in Oxford to optimize the exploitation of the deposits of the so-called white gold of the 21st century.
