Exclusion of Russian products from US sanctions is not a concession

Moscow, Jul 15 (Prensa Latina) The head of the International Affairs Committee of the Lower House of the Russian Parliament, Leonid Slutski, noted that the exclusion of some Russian products from the sanctions imposed by the United States should not be considered a concession.

“The publication by the US Treasury of clarifications noting that the sanctions against our country do not apply to agriculture, energy, medicine, the fight against the coronavirus and transit air travel should not be taken as a sign of some kind of thaw or constructiveness from Washington,” the deputy warned.

Speaking to TASS new agency, Slutski warned that any rapprochement from the US Government with Moscow should not be expected in the near future.

In this regard, he pointed out that US President Joe Biden and representatives of his Administration “constantly declare a course to increase pressure on Russia, while blaming the Kremlin for the consequences of its thoughtless sanctions policy.”

“These exceptions are only aimed at not ruining its own economy completely, avoiding a situation in which US citizens will have to go without food and electricity. This prospect also threatens Europe, but Washington doesn’t care,” the Russian politician confirmed.

The US Treasury Department commented on Thursday that transactions with Russia in the fields of agriculture, energy, medicine (including those related to the fight against the coronavirus), transit air travel, as well as those affecting the work of non-governmental organizations, are exempted from the sanctions.

The institution also specified that the US Office of Foreign Assets Control, which is attached to Treasury, issued “several general licenses related to Moscow that authorize certain transactions involving foreign financial institutions.”
