Kharkov and Lugansk sign friendship and cooperation treaty

Moscow, Jul 16 (Prensa Latina) The administration of the liberated territories of the Ukrainian region of Kharkov and the self-proclaimed Lugansk People's Republic (LPR) signed a treaty of friendship and cooperation on Saturday.

“Our republic is ready to help the neighboring liberated areas of Kharkov (…) and a Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation was penned between both,” LPR leader Leonid Pasechnik wrote on Telegram.

For its part, the administration of the Kharkov region explained that the agreement consists of 20 articles on cooperation in the humanitarian, trade, cultural and other fields.

The text also stipulates joint defense against external aggression and mutual recognition of documents issued by both administrations.

During the military operation launched on February 24 in Ukraine, Russian and LPR allied forces took control of a part of the Kharkov region.

In his speech to report on the start of the operation, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that the aim was to protect the population of Donbass from Kiev’s abuses and genocide during

the past eight years, in addition to “demilitarizing and denazifying” Ukraine.
