Faria participated as a guest in the celebration of the 43rd anniversary of this revolution that ended over four decades of the dictatorship of the Somoza dinasty, one of the bloodiest in Latin American history.

“When the Sandinista columns entered Managua and destroyed the tyranny of the Somoza, on that unforgettable July 19, 1979, the Venezuelan and Latin American people, as well as the peoples of the world, were thrilled with joy and optimism, the foreign minister recalled.

From then on, he said, Nicaragua would become a landmark for other peoples from the continent and the world that were fighting for national freedom and democracy.

The Nicaraguan Revolution, he noted, became a milestone in an emancipating path that started with the triumph of the Cuban Revolution in January, 1959.
