A report from the National Office of Statistics and Information (ONEI) shows interesting elements to be taken into account for the immediate future.
The ONEI’s 2022 Yearbook on Mining and Energy mentioned the natural carriers that are promoted in Cuba and for which statistical information is available.
Among the data collected, they listed oil, natural gas, hydropower, firewood and sugarcane products, mainly bagasse,
In the case of hydropower, production levels are estimated on the basis of the electricity generated by the country’s hydroelectric power plants, currently operated by Union Electrica.
The report also mentioned the production of secondary energy resulting from transformations or elaboration from natural carriers or in certain cases from another carrier, as is the case of the elaborated or secondary ones.
The main products obtained in Cuba from oil refining are asphalts, petroleum coke and refinery gas, diesel, fuel oil, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), gasoline and naphtha (different types), kerosene, solvents and turbo fuel.
Most lubricants originate from the processing of imported base oils and not from petroleum as such.
