Archive of Plaza de Mayo Mothers declared of interest

Buenos Aires, Jul 28 (Prensa Latina) The Government of the Argentinian province of Buenos Aires on Thursday declared the Historic Archive of the Plaza de Mayo Mothers' Association of interest, due to its importance for the preservation of memory, truth and justice.

Through Decree 810/2022, published in the Official Gazette of that territory, Governor Axel Kicillof highlighted the contribution from that organization to the collection, preservation and exhibition of documents on the events that took place during the last military dictatorship in this country (1976-1983).

The work “allows victims, relatives and citizens to have access to information in order to know the truth about what happened and to avoid the repetition of such acts, guaranteeing access to justice and comprehensive reparation,” the text states.

It also refers to the duty of the State to adopt the necessary measures to ensure the physical preservation of the memorial places and to avoid the removal, destruction or falsification of images, plans, documents, archives or any other data that may be evidence of human rights violations.

The archive that is the object of the present declaration is of substantial importance for the province of Buenos Aires, especially since it is expected to be transferred to our territory in the near future, he adds.

The archive gathers details of 45 years of struggle and resistance and the horrors perpetrated during those years.
