Belice, Cuba, relaciones, aniversario
Belmopan, Jul 28 (Prensa Latina) The Belize-Cuba Solidarity Group celebrated in this capital the 27th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations, a diplomatic source reported on Thursday.

The members of that organization, together with personnel from the Cuban Embassy, also celebrated the National Rebelliousness Day, which Cuba commemorates every July 26 to pay tribute to those who fell in the attacks on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks in 1953.

The minister of Public Services, Constitutional and Political Reform, Henry Charles, highlighted the importance of bilateral ties and recalled that Cuba supported the independence of Belize before the United Nations Organization.

He also signified the historic nature of the links between both governments and peoples, identified with just struggles and common causes such as cooperation in health and education, according to a press release from the Cuban Embassy in this capital.

Charles, who is also the president of the United People’s Party, reiterated his compatriots’ rejection of the economic, financial and commercial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba more than six decades ago.

For his part, a Belizean student from the Wayne Tzib Latin American School of Medicine, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to train as a health professional from Cuba.

The event of solidarity was also attended by Cuban and Venezuelan Ambassadors Maria Caridad Balaguer and Gerardo Argote, respectively, who graduated in Cuba.

On July 15, 1995, the governments of Belize and Cuba established diplomatic relations, based on mutual respect, cooperation and the defense of common interests.
