Mexico: High attendance to election of delegates to Morena congress

México, Morena, elecciones, delegados, congreso
Mexico City, Jul 31 (Prensa Latina) This Sunday election of delegates to the National Congress of Morena, ruling party of Mexico, closes with a very high turnout at the polls.

The process began yesterday in Mexico City and several nearby states, and concludes today in the remaining 12 federal entities, all with an unprecedented attendance at the voting centers.

Affiliates will choose their three thousand delegates among the 43 thousand directors who signed up as candidates after a purge of those who did not meet the requirements to represent the different regions of the country in the most important meeting of the party.

Press media and observers agreed to describe the massive participation in the entities as extraordinary, particularly in Mexico City where the head of government, Claudia Sheinbaum, and Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard reside, strong candidates to represent Morena in the 2024 presidential elections. .

Both left very early for their respective voting centers, the first in the popular neighborhood of Tlalpan and Ebrard in the most exclusive of Cuauhtémoc, where the amazing participation of the people stood out.

Mario Delgado, the national president of Morena, did so in the Sala de Armas, in Iztacalco, where he denied campaigns by the political opposition to drive voters and highlighted the spontaneity of the participants, an expression of Morena’s great potential.

“Wherever we have a report that there was hauling, where we have evidence, these complaints will be presented to the Honesty and Justice Commission and we will evaluate whether or not the summons was met,” he said.

Meanwhile in voting centers, such as the one in Tlatelolco, an hour after the polls closed, people continued to vote, as happens in federal and state elections when people who are already formed can go to the voting table.

There were isolated disturbances, as almost always happens in these processes, which were magnified by the opposition political parties, almost all of very low intensity, as in Veracruz, where voting booths were reportedly closed and even a ballot box was burned in Tantoyuca.

In Minatitlán, the electoral process ended in a fight and was suspended for a few hours, for which its leaders called on the population and the provocateurs not to repeat “the old vices that led the country to the cliff.”

But the result was very positive, and Sheinbaum and Ebrard, like a good part of the national press, described it as “a very democratic process, a lot of people participated, a lot of people everywhere and we are going to wait for the day, but it has been a very participatory”.
