Police agencies and witnesses to these events pointed out that the incident took place in the locality of Danda Chugwi, where 18 other people were recently killed after a clash between community vigilantes and radical Islamist elements.

Rwang Tengwong, the secretary general of the non-governmental advertising organization Young Designers Association, said that many of those shot after the assault received medical attention at the Vom Christian hospital.

In Plateau state, armed clashes between Fulani communities and other ethnic groups for the control of fertile land and cattle are frequent, according to the digital portal PMNewsNigeria.

Also several parts of the national territory, including northern areas, are under attack by the Islamic extremist group Boko Haram, which is being fought by the national Army with the support of other forces.
