NGO warns about rise of violence in Yemen despite truce

Yemen
Aden, Yemen, Aug 2 (Prensa Latina) More than 230 civilians, included 57 children, were killed or injured in Yemen in July, despite the truce in force since early April, NGO Save the Children denounced on Tuesday.

Only in the last week of July, 38 minors were victims of the conflict, the highest number in seven days since early 2020, the organization stressed.

Words fail when trying to describe the amount of suffering and hardship that has been endured by children since 2014 of an unforgiving war that has taken a terrible toll on their lives and the future of their country, Rama Hansraj, Save the Children’s Country Director in Yemen, said.

The war in Yemen began in 2014, when Houthi rebels took up arms and occupied large swathes of the country, including Sana’a, its capital.

In 2015, an Arab coalition, led by Saudi Arabia, intervened in the conflict in support of then President Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi, who transferred his powers to the new Presidential Leadership Council.
