China sanctions entities linked to separatism in Taiwan

Beijing, Aug 3 (Prensa Latina) China imposed sanctions on entities linked to Taiwan's separatist forces, amid tensions fueled by the visit of the Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi.

The State Council prohibited companies, organizations and individuals from mainland China from having exchanges and providing financing or services to the Taiwan Foundation for Democracy and the International Development and Cooperation Fund.

It also prohibited any transaction or cooperation with the firms Speedtech Energy, Hyweb Technology, Skyla, SkyEyes GPS Technology because they donated money to those two foundations, while their presidents and CEOs will not be allowed to enter China.

The State Council explained that it applied the measures because these entities carried out activities in favor of Taiwan’s independence in the international arena. “Under the guise of democracy, cooperation and development (…) they have done their best to ingratiate themselves with anti-Chinese outside forces,” said Ma Xiaoguang, spokesman for the Cabinet office for Taiwan affairs.

According to the official, both organizations attacked and smeared the mainland, as well as used money and other means as bait to expand Taiwan’s so-called “international space” in an attempt to undermine support for the one-China principle.

The sanctions are part of Beijing’s response to Pelosi’s trip to Taipei, which prompted urgent consultations and a protest to US Ambassador Nicholas Burns.
