The recovery and strengthening of our international organizations is essential to advance the integration of Latin America, the president of the Colombian Senate, Roy Barreras said.

He emphasized that the election of Florez is one more step in the development and harmony of the decision of the new government of the Historical Pact to rebuild and strengthen international relations moving towards a block of Latin American nations.

The Andean Parliament is the supranational and democratic body of the Andean Community, the only member of the Andean Integration System whose representatives are elected by popular vote.

Its missions are to harmonize the laws of the region, guarantee citizen participation, strengthen Andean and Latin American integration, regionalize good government practices and state policies, and strengthen Andean identity and culture.

The governments of Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela signed the treaty establishing this subregional organization on October 25, 1979 in La Paz.
