After the traditional parade of artists through one of the main streets of this marine city, FICGibara president Jorge Perugorria, through a video message, dedicated some words to the doctors for their professionalism and dedication during these years of pandemic, which kept the event on hold.
He also thanked the efforts done by the country’s cultural institutions for supporting the 16th edition of FICGibara, in a very complex economic context for the island.
Perugorria stressed that the Festival will be another reunion with Humberto Solas, who founded this project after the shooting of “Miel Para Ochun” (Honey For Ochun, 2001), the first digital low-budget feature film made in Cuba.
Two greats of Cuban cinema, actors Mario Limonta and Mario Balmaseda, received the Lucia de Honor award during the opening ceremony, in recognition to a life devoted to the seventh art.
Until August 6, moviegoers could enjoy national and foreign films, as well as book launchings, art exhibitions and concerts, among other activities.
