According to the UN office in this capital, Guterres welcomed the transportation of a shipment of 26,527 tons of corn to Lebanese territory under the historic agreement signed by Ukraine, Russia and Turkey on July 22.
The head of the multilateral organization said that the Razoni is the first cargo ship to leave a Ukrainian Black Sea port since February 26 as part of the establishment in Istanbul of the Joint Coordination Center for the transfer of grains and foodstuffs to global markets.
Under the auspices of the UN and the coordination of the three countries, the Center will also pave the way for Russian food and fertilizers to reach all parts of the world with the aim of reducing prices and avoiding the possibility of famine afflicting millions of people in the coming months.
Turkish authorities announced the planning of more grain shipments in the coming weeks in a safe and successful way for much-needed food supplies to make a difference.
