For Cuba, Yarisleidis Cirilo will return to the aquatic track now in the C1 200, a modality in which the experts place her as a favorite for the podium in a fight with the US leader in the Tokyo Olympics, Nevin Harrison.
The Cuban athlete arrives at the event after winning the World Cup in the Czech city of Racice last May, ahead of China’s Wenjun Lin and Canada’s Katie Vincent. Cirilo and Katherin Nuevo qualified on Wednesday for the final A of the C2-500, clocking 2:02.12 minutes, better than Axelle Renard and Eugenie Dorange (2:04.87), from France, and Giada Brangato and Bianka Nagy (2:05.31), from Hungary, who got directly to the discussion of the gold medal.
Wednesday was the first international presentation as a pair in the C2-500 of Cuban Olympic champion Serguey Torres and the promising Tabiani Dieguez, in a race in which they finished fourth and advanced to the semifinals on Friday.
