Cuba increases actions to face dengue fever

Ciego de Avila, Cuba, Aug 4 (Prensa Latina) Actions to curb the high rate of infestation of the Aedes aegypti mosquito are being undertaken in the municipality of Majagua, in this central Cuban province, among the territories of the country with open transmission of dengue.

According to Gilberto Suarez, deputy director of Hygiene and Epidemiology of the town, located southwest of Ciego de Avila, there are currently 83 outbreaks, 25 reiterative blocks and a daily average of 11 fever cases, aspects that qualify it as a high epidemiological risk.

He emphasized that the four existing dengue serotypes circulate in the municipality, microorganisms that cause an infectious process.

Currently they are increasing the active researches to check the febrile states and the house to house focal points, for which they have support groups from other municipalities and from different sectors, he pointed out.

Among other actions, he highlighted the opening of an isolation center with trained health personnel for people who do not have the conditions in their homes to face the disease, among other actions.

The province in general has an affectation index of 0,35 and in addition to the tense situation in Majagua, they are extremely vigilant in the municipalities of Ciro Redondo, Morón, Primero de Enero and Ciego de Avila.
