Addressing a huge rally in the city of Uige, capital of the namesake province, the president of the People’s Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA), João Lourenço, thanked the inhabitants for their support, after similar experiences in other regions of the country.

He said that the upcoming election is a great political challenge, but the MPLA is certain that it will come out victorious because Angolan people are not ungrateful and acknowledge the history of this party.

This people matured with the hardships of the war that lasted many years and that maturity, he pointed out, allows them to analyze reality based on the work of successive MPLA governments.

The first multiparty general election in Angola was held in 1992, that is, 30 years ago and during all that time one of the parties with a parliamentary seat has never voted in favor of the General State Budget, a fundamental tool to be able to allocate resources for social investments, he commented.

However, this opposition party now claims in its electoral campaign that it wants to solve the people’s problems, Lourenço said, questioning the seriousness of these politicians.

The last general election in 2017 was won by the MPLA, with 61.08 percent of the vote, followed by UNITA (26.67 percent) and Casa-CE (9.44), according to official data. mh/aph/mem/mjm
