“Dame Olivia Newton-John passed away peacefully at her Ranch in Southern California this morning, surrounded by family and friends. We ask that everyone please respect the family’s privacy during this very difficult time,” her husband, John Easterling, wrote in a statement on the singer’s Instagram account. “Olivia has been a symbol of triumphs and hope for over 30 years sharing her journey with breast cancer.”

Although the cause of death is not yet revealed, the Hollywood star has fought against breast cancer for over three decades, and according to her husband, “instead of flowers, we ask donations be made in her memory to funding the eponymous foundation.

Once the news was spread globally, American actor John Travolta, with whom Olivia shared the leading role in Grease film, said on the spot: “My dearest Olivia, you made our lives much better. Your impact was incredible. I love you so much”.
