Rosatom puts into service facilities of nuclear center in Bolivia

Moscow, Aug 8 (Prensa Latina) Russia's Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation has put into experimental service the first industrial facilities of a nuclear center in Bolivia, the entity reported on Telegram on Monday.

“The preclinical cyclotron-radiopharmacological complex and a multipurpose irradiation center, without analogues globally, have been put into experimental service,” the Russian state-owned company reported.

Rosatom also explained that the facility is called the Center for Nuclear Research and Technology and is located in the Bolivian city of El Alto.

About this issue, Bolivian Ambassador to Moscow Maria Luisa Ramos said during the evening of Bolivia’s declaration of independence held on August 5 that this project is of utmost importance for both Moscow and La Paz, as it emphasizes the transfer of technology.

Ramos also stressed that the initiative has purely peaceful and research purposes, and Bolivian specialists trained in Russia are working on it.

According to Rosatom, the facility will produce radiopharmaceuticals to treat oncological, cardiac and neurological diseases, and will allow that the Bolivian nuclear medicine centers carry out clinical trials on more than 5,000 patients per year.

The project by the Center for Nuclear Research and Technology is being developed by Bolivia’s Nuclear Energy Agency and Rusatom Overseas, a subsidiary of Rosatom, at an altitude of 4,000 meters above sea level.
