Following explosions claimed by the Islamic State in recent days, which killed and injured more than 120 people, the UN family in Afghanistan urges greater security for ethnic minorities; so that Ashura can be celebrated without further attacks, Unama demanded via the social network Twitter.

Ashura is a two-day holiday celebrated by Shiite Muslims in the first month of the Islamic calendar.

The UN institution´s request comes after a bus in the Afghan capital was hit by a landmine last Sunday in the most recent incident, killing three people and injuring more than a dozen others.

The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) also condemned the events, especially last Friday’s explosion in Kabul.

According to figures provided by security officials, there were six explosions in the Afghan capital in the last six days, killing 14 people and injuring more than 40 others.
