Campaign to send donations to Cuba promoted in Argentina

Buenos Aires, Aug 10 (Prensa Latina) Argentinian organizations and Cubans residents here are promoting a campaign to send donations to Cuba as part of support actions in the light of a fire at the supertanker base in western Matanzas province.

In a joint initiative, the Argentinian Solidarity Movement, the Argentinian Association of Graduates in Cuba and the Union of Cuban Residents are collecting medical supplies to attend to those injured during the large-scale fire, which has been raging since last Friday.

“The blockade kills. Your solidarity saves lives,” the slogan of the campaign promoted on social networks reads.

Over the last few days, these organizations have reiterated their support for the Government and people of Cuba and have regretted the material and human damage caused by the fire.

However, they assured that Cuba will be able to overcome this situation with the unity and strength of its citizens and the support of friends from all over the world.

Teams from the Cuban Ministry of the Interior, the Revolutionary Armed Forces, CubaPetroleo and the Institute of Hydraulic Resources, together with Mexican and Venezuelan specialists, are working to control the fire that started after a lightning stroke one of the base’s tanks.

More than 100 people were injured, 14 are still missing and a member of the fire department from central Cienfuegos province was killed during the efforts to deal with the complex situation.
