Scientific achievements of Cuban University praise last 75 years

Universidad-de-Oriente-avanza-hoy-hacia-sus-75-anos-300x216
Santiago de Cuba, Aug 12 (Prensa Latina) The practical application of scientific research in industry, agriculture and health, among other economic and social sectors, shows the Universidad de Oriente advances today towards its 75th anniversary next October.

According to sources from its research vice-rectory, the second institution of its kind founded in Cuba maintains a synergy between the academy and those areas that have particular strength in the national health system with the introduction of several results from its scientific centers.

Outstanding in these efforts is the creation of a medical bag that will facilitate faster and more efficient diagnoses, an effort that brings together the Centers for Medical Biophysics (CBM), the National Center for Applied Electromagnetism (Cnea), Neurosciences and image and signal processing .

That contraption, which will be ready in the next few years, will contain a more modern version of the magnetic stimulator, sensors and other small devices, along with others with more modern formats for therapy rooms.

A significant contribution is derived from the patent obtained by the Cnea for the use of magnetizers in oil production, which is added to other encouraging achievements in the use of these mechanisms in the elimination of scale in pipes and boilers in various industrial processes.

The Center for Industrial Biotechnology leads studies that favor food sovereignty, health and nutritional education, with the proven possibilities of pleurotus, an edible fungus that is produced among agricultural crop residues.

Through its use in Santiago hospitals, the mushroom has demonstrated its positive immunomodulatory, stimulating, protective and regenerative effects, in addition to its proven acceptance as a food option, mainly in salads, in tourism.

For their part, specialists from the Energy Efficiency Center are working on the creation of a Cuban gasifier prototype, based on biogas and forest biomass in the country, while those linked to Information Technology are working on drones that enable the precision farming.

During the recent publication of the World Ranking of Universities, the University of the East was placed for the first time among the thousand outstanding, after the centenary of Havana and the central Marta Abreu, of Las Villas, and ahead of the Technological José Antonio Echeverría.

A decisive step was the creation, last July, of the fourth Higher Education interface company in Cuba, which under the name of Cintro S.A. will favor this productive interaction between classrooms and the economy.
