In the sculpture complex, where the remains of a group of fighters who fell in the guerrilla war in Bolivia in 1967 also rest, Valdes Mesa presided over the ceremony to hand out Party and Young Communist League membership cards, on the occasion of the 96th birthday today of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro.
He later evaluated the industrial complex under construction by the Labiofam Business Group in this city, in central Villa Clara province.
The project is nearly 80 percent complete and is expected to be finished this year.
Valdes Mesa insisted on the quality of the investments and the importance of accelerating the pace of works.
“We checked the work on a special day, the plant has to start up and do it well,” the Cuban vice president said.
This plant, like two others under construction in Havana and Granma provinces, is a joint investment between China and Cuba, and specialists from different national institutions are responsible for the control and quality of the work. The plant will produce biofertilizers and biopesticides to replace imports for the country’s agricultural development, especially for various crops, and to increase exports.
