Matanzas city thankfully says goodbye to Cuban firefighters

Matanzas, Cuba, Aug 14 (Prensa Latina) Matanzas city on Sunday thankfully sent Cuban Fire Department off following its deep involvement in dousing the life-threatening fire affecting the province´s major oil storage tanks.

The meeting enabled Matanzas people to express their deep gratitude to firefighters from Pinar del Río, Artemisa, Havana, Mayabeque, Villa Clara, Cienfuegos, Ciego de Ávila and Sancti Spíritus who, alongside their colleagues from Matanzas, Mexican and Venezuelan collaborators, managed to put out the flames.

At the leveled area in front of the Mártires del Goicuría Elementary School, Yunisexky Bernal, Matanzas´ First Secretary Communist Party of Cuba (PCC, in Spanish), heaped praise on firefighters´ immediate response to the fire that broke out on August 5 at the province´s oil terminal.

The deadly mega fire, curtains of polluting smoke that suffocated by the simple fact of looking at it, will remain forever in the Matanzas people´s memory. Respect and admiration will also remain for the courage of those who beat their fears, soothed ours and defeated terror, Bernal said.

During the ceremony, a minute´s silence was observed in tribute to those who passed away due to the fire. Matanzas´ PCC authorities and provincial government granted recognition to the solidarity firefighters.
