Panama close to one million Covid-19 cases

Panama City, Aug 16 (Prensa Latina) Panamanian health authorities confirmed that the country is facing a fifth Covid-19 wave, which in the last week added 6,6470 cases for a total of 966,779 confirmed cases.

According to the report of the Ministry of Health (Minsa), during the same period (August 7 to 13), 10 deaths were registered for a total of 8,444 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020.

During this period, 42,756 tests were performed with an average positivity rate of 15%.

Active cases totaled 8,551 and some 8,354 people are in home isolation, while 172 are hospitalized and 25 patients are in intensive care units.

To date, 949,784 patients have overcome the disease.

The Expanded Program of Immunization indicated that since January 20, 2021 to date, 8,532,735 vaccines have been administered and 453,673 pediatric doses have been administered to children between 5 and 11 years of age.
