In statements to Prensa Latina, Brun, who is also the secretary-general of the CGT Federation of Railway Workers, said that three containers with food and basic items already arrived in the island during the spring.

We are now working on three other containers, two with medicines and supplies for the health sector and one for the Cuban Workers Federation (CTC), which we expect to send before the year ends, he said.

More than 20 CGT organizations have joined the solidarity campaign activated by the railroad workers, an operation that includes political actions to denounce the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States against Cuba and its tightening.

The funds collected by the unions made possible to acquire dozens of tons of items, ranging from oil, flour and canned food to medical supplies.

Brun told Prensa Latina that the CGT Railway Workers donated 10,000 Euros to the Caribbean nation as a token of support for the serious accident that affected the industrial zone of the western province of Matanzas a few days ago, where a voracious fire caused human and material losses.

On Tuesday, Cuban Ambassador Otto Vaillant expressed here his gratitude for the solidarity with his country.
