Mexico launches information system to monitor climate change

Mexico City, Aug 18 (Prensa Latina) Mexico launched a new Information System of the Agenda for Transparency of Climate Actions at the Subnational Level (SIAT) related to the monitoring of climate change.

The Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT) had the support of the German Cooperation for Sustainable Development Mexico (GIZ Mx) in the development of the SIAT-Subnacional platform.

This will allow state governments to evaluate year after year their progress in the implementation of mitigation measures for Greenhouse Gases and adaptation to climate change in a transparent and reliable manner.

The secretariat reported that this platform will allow the Mexican states will be able to report, monitor, verify and evaluate the adaptation and mitigation actions implemented and be part of the Determined Contribution mechanism, which Mexico will present in the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change as part of the Paris Agreement.

Maria Luisa Albores, head of SEMARNAT, said that the Mexican government has a special interest in promoting activities for the care and protection of the planet with the responsibility of addressing the effects that the climate crisis represents for the country under a biocultural approach.
