“The US Government’s lackadaisical attitude to this obvious problem undermines the White House’s claim of being the guarantor of regional stability and security,” the Russian Foreign Ministry noted in a communiqué published by the Embassy.
Russian diplomats explained that a meeting of the Council of the Organization of American States (OAS) addressed the problem of growing “smuggling of arms from abroad to the internally devastated Republic of Haiti.”
This situation, according to the organization, hinders the efforts by Haiti and the international community for “domestic political normalization”.
Last month, the United Nations warned about the worsening violence between Haitian gangs, mainly in the capital, and about increasing abuses by heavily armed gangs against vulnerable local communities.
According to the international body, violence in Haiti left at least 934 people killed, 684 injured and 680 kidnapped in Port-au-Prince in the first half of 2022.
