Brussels, Aug 19 (Prensa Latina) The head of diplomacy of the European Union (EU), Josep Borrell, denied progress in the talks between the Serbian president, Aleksandar Vučić , and the prime minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti.

Serbia and Kosovo did not reach a solution to the problem of replacing car numbers and documents in the north of the country during negotiations between their leaders mediated by the EU, Borrell said.

The diplomat acknowledged that there are still many differences between the parties on the situation in northern Kosovo, but stressed that they agreed to continue the dialogue.

Riots broke out in northern Kosovo on July 31st after Pristina decided to ban Serbian identity cards and license plates starting on August 1st

The same day, the Kosovar authorities reversed course by holding meetings with representatives of the United States and the European Union, and postponed the measure for September 1st.

Kosovo, populated mainly by Albanians, proclaimed its independence unilaterally in 2008, being recognized by the United States, Canada and most of the member countries of the European Union, but not by Serbia, Russia, China, Spain, Greece, Iran and others.
