Fires in Spain destroy over 283,000 hectares of land

España-incendios-forestales
Madrid, Aug 19 (Prensa Latina) Authorities in different regions of Spain have been on edge for six weeks, with forest fires that have destroyed more than 283,000 hectares.

The most voracious fire is taking place in Bejís, a small Valencian municipality that due to the abrupt changes of the wind, included its intensity, remains uncontrollable this Friday.

Ximo Puig, president of the Generalitat Valenciana, said in an interview with Antena 3 that firefighters and security and rescue specialists (emergency services) are working hard, but the weather has not helped to extinguish the fire in Bejís.

Of more than 400 forest fires occurred in Spain this year, the Bejís fire is probably one of the largest ones, with many difficulties to control it, despite the help by the central Government and other autonomous communities of the Iberian country.

Another fire in Olocau, within the Sierra Calderona park, about 40 kilometers southeast of Bejís, started early Friday, as emergency services sources reported and regional president Ximo Puig confirmed.
