In a telephone conversation, Putin warned that the bombing of the plant could lead to the radiation contamination of vast European territories, the Kremlin’s presidential press service reported.

The rulers noted the importance of sending a mission of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to the atomic power plant as soon as possible to assess the actual situation on the ground, he reported.

In this regard, the Russian side confirmed its readiness to provide the necessary assistance to the inspectors.

Putin also told Macron about his interest in having experts from the UN General Secretariat and the International Committee of the Red Cross visit the settlement of Elenovka, located in the southwest of Donetsk, to investigate the shelling of a penitentiary center, where 50 Ukrainians were killed at the end of July.

Moreover, the heads of State discussed the Istanbul food agreement, signed last July 22, to ensure the safe export of grain from Black Sea ports.

“There are still obstacles to Russian shipments of food and fertilizers, which will not contribute to solving the tasks related to ensuring global food security,” the Kremlin report noted in reference to the dialogue.
