Environmentalists block access roads to oil terminals in the UK

London, Aug 23 (Prensa Latina) The British environmental group Just Stop Oil blocked the access roads to two important oil terminals in England, as part of its campaign against new fossil fuel extraction projects.

As the organization reported in a statement, several of the protesters sat on the road to cut off tanker trucks heading for the Navigator depot in Essex County, and two of them took advantage of the traffic congestion to climb onto the roof of one of the vehicles. A little further north, some 20 activists blocked the two access points to the Kingsbury oil terminal, considered the largest in the United Kingdom.

Tuesday’s protest is part of a campaign launched by Just Stop Oil last April to demand that the British government commit to stopping the granting of new operating licenses to oil and gas companies.

Our addition to oil is fueling climate collapse and causing the worst cost-of-living crisis in 40 years, Jeannie Donald-McKim, a 58-year-old teacher, quoted in the press release, said.

The environmental group called on its supporters to demonstrate next October 1 in front of the British Parliament in central London.
