Cuba sends condolences to Pakistan over loss of lives due to rains

Havana, Aug 28 (Prensa Latina) Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel on Sunday sent heartfelt condolences to the people and Government of Pakistan over the unfortunate loss of human lives and material damage caused by monsoon rains.

The president expressed Cuba’s solidarity on his Twitter account in view of the unprecedented rainfalls in Pakistan as a result of climate change.

More than 1,000 people have died in Pakistan due to floods, according to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), which has also confirmed 1,527 injured since June 14.

The southern province of Sindh is the most affected region, while material damage is so far worth three billion euros, with almost 950,000 houses partially or totally destroyed, around 3,500 kilometers of roads damaged, and some 150 collapsed bridges.

The floods have affected 110 municipalities nationwide, 72 of which have been declared disaster areas.

Some 5.7 million people, including 498,000 who were transferred to relief camps, have been affected by the rains.
