Some 25,000 people reported missing in Nigeria

Abuja, Aug 30 (Prensa Latina) Humanitarian organizations reported that some 25,000 people, including 14,000 children, are missing in Nigeria, the digital portal Punch reported.

The head of the Delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross in this country, Yann Bonzon, regretted, in this sense, that the cases of civilians, whose whereabouts are unknown, are increasing.

The source warned, on the other hand, that the 14,000 children registered as missing ‘do not reflect the full extent of this often neglected and tragic humanitarian problem’ as there may be more children unreported as missing.

Such a situation occurs in Nigeria, amid a wave of violence and kidnappings of people by armed bandit groups and the radical formation Boko Haram, which operates in northern and central areas of this country, the most populous in Africa with some 240 million inhabitants.

Also, according to the local press, in Africa, where there are 35 active armed conflicts, thousands of human beings, many of them children, leave their countries of origin across borders, deserts and the Mediterranean Sea in search of a better life in European territories.
