Egypt carries out strategy to face climate change

Cairo, Sep 3 (Prensa Latina) Egypt is promoting today a strategy to face climate change, which includes the development of renewable energy sources, environmental conservation and inclusive and sustainable growth, said an official source.

During a meeting with the representative of the United Nations Development Program here, Alessandro Fracassetti, Minister of Planning and Economic Development Hala El Saeed pointed out the importance of the upcoming climate summit (COP27), to be held in November in the Egyptian resort of Sharm El Sheikh.

During COP27, innovative solutions are expected to help close the financing gaps and address the challenges of the current decade, according to a statement from the portfolio.

El Saeed and Fracassetti discussed how to increase collaboration between the Egyptian government and the UN agency, the statement said.

The Cairo authorities have been carrying out for weeks an intense agenda of international meetings as part of the preparations for the summit.

In early June, Environment Minister Yasmine Fouad announced that Egypt will present several initiatives related to food, water and energy during the summit.

Egypt launched its National Climate Change Strategy 2050 in May to address the impacts of climate change.

Nearly 35,000 people from different parts of the world have registered to participate in the climate summit.
