Effective attack on Zaparozhie nuclear power plant denounced

central-nuclear-Zaparozhie
Moscow, Sep 5 (Prensa Latina) The Ukrainian Armed Forces attacked the special protection of the Zaparozhie nuclear power plant, and damaged the hermeticity of a water tank near the second block of that facility, Russian sources indicated today.

The artillery shelling caused damage to the protection of the concrete insulation communication ducts, as well as the distilled water tank near the second reactor, the Russian civil-military administration in Zaparozhie said.

At the moment, no casualties are reported, said Alexander Volga, head of the aforementioned administration, established last March, after Russian troops took control of the city of Energodar, where the largest nuclear plant in Europe is located.

Until now, there is no danger to the continuity of the technological process in the aforementioned facility, which directs activities in the Zaparozhie region south of the Dnieper River to the shores of the Azov Sea, said in its Telegram account.

Last Thursday a delegation from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), headed by its director general, Rafael Grossi, visited the Zaparozhie plant, after which the latter announced the creation of a permanent mission of that body there.

Russia denounces that since last August 5, Ukrainian troops have been attacking with artillery fire, including directed projectiles, the territory of the nuclear power plant, made up of six blocks, of which only one remained active due to security problems.

The Ukrainian side speculates on alleged actions of self-aggression by Russia and demands the creation of a demilitarized zone.

Last Thursday, on the eve of the IAEA visit, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that its forces, including aviation, destroyed a Ukrainian sabotage group, made up of 60 commandos, who tried to land in a reservoir near the plant.

Russian troops took power in the aforementioned part of Zaparozhie, after President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24 the start of a special war operation to demilitarize and denazify Ukraine.
