Argentine retirees and pensioners condemn attack on vice-president

Buenos Aires, Sep 6 (Prensa Latina) Retirees and pensioners of the "Frente Unidos y Organizados" (United and Organized Front) will march near the Argentine Congress on Tuesday, to denounce the assassination attempt on Vice-President Cristina Fernández and demand an end to all kind of violence.

According to that organization, the march will take place at noon, local time, and the participants will gather at Entre Ríos Avenue and Hipólito Yrigoyen Avenue.

In statements to Télam news agency, Renée Girardi, of the Adultos Mayores de Capital Federal Front, said that the demonstration aims to support the former president and demand that the event is soon clarified.

We will also demonstrate in defense of democracy, the Republic, and the institutions, he said.

“If they attack Cristina, they are attacking the people and all of us who want that the Judiciary does not continue being a stronghold to protect some far-right people who only want to maintain their privileges,” he added.

Around 21:00 hours, local time on Thursday, a 35-year-old Brazilian citizen identified as Fernando Sabag pointed a gun at Fernandez’s head when she was greeting people gathered outside her home in the Recoleta neighborhood in Buenos Aires.
