Buenos Aires, Sep 9 (Prensa Latina) Argentinean politicians urged today to participate in the Mass for peace and fraternity that will be held tomorrow to call for democratic coexistence after the assassination attempt on Vice President Cristina Fernández.

According to the spokeswoman for the Casa Rosada, Gabriela Cerruti, the ceremony will take place in the Basilica of Luján, in the province of Buenos Aires, and President Alberto Fernández requested the participation of his cabinet.

In addition to the ministers, representatives of various political organizations and religious denominations, members of groups such as the Union of Workers of the Popular Economy, the Evita Movement and Somos Barrios de Pie will attend.

In statements to local radio, the head of Women, Gender Policies and Sexual Diversity of the province, Estela Díaz, assured that the mass will be an opportunity to promote dialogue, defend democracy and reject violent acts such as the attack on the Senate president.

This meeting is of great importance, as were the gigantic mobilizations of the 2nd of this month in the main squares of the country, she pointed out.

Likewise, she affirmed that hate speech produces a weakening of coexistence relations, for which the confrontation with them must be forceful.

Fernández is one of the main leaders of this nation. We must protect her and society as a whole. It is necessary to reaffirm the commitment to peace, justice, rights and equality, she indicated.

On the 1st of this month, around 9:00 p.m. local time, a man identified as Fernando Sabag, 35, of Brazilian nationality, pointed a gun at the former president’s head as she greeted people gathered outside her address in the capital’s Recoleta neighborhood.

Although he pulled the trigger, the gun, which contained five bullets, did not fire. On Sunday night, officers from the Antiterrorist Investigation Unit arrested his girlfriend, Brenda Uliarte, after she was identified in images from surveillance cameras located near the apartment of the former head of state.

The couple was charged by Judge María Eugenia Capuchetti for “having tried to kill Fernández, counting on planning and prior agreement between the two.”
