Cuba is not alarmed but vigilant over monkeypox

Havana, Sep 10 (Prensa Latina) Cuban health authorities assured that monkeypox is not a cause for alarm in the country, where surveillance is being maintained in view of the increase in cases of that disease in the Americas.

So far, Cuba has confirmed two contagions with monkeypox, and the healthcare system is on the alert for the possible appearance of infected citizens.

At the Molecular Biology laboratories of the Pedro Kouri Tropical Medicine Institute (IPK), samples of suspected individuals are processed to confirm the diagnosis of the disease.

The Cuban patient being treated at that center maintains a favorable clinical evolution.

Cuban Deputy Public Health Minister Carilda Peña recently explained that the flow chart for the care of patients suspected of having the disease has already been defined.

Likewise, the measures to control the outbreak have been established, and it has been decided which assistance units will attend to the cases of monkeypox.

There are biosecurity standards for patients, family members, and service providers, taking into account the level of contagiousness and the way in which the disease is spread, the deputy minister pointed out.
