Cuban diplomats strengthen ties with people of Connecticut

Washington, Sep 10 (Prensa Latina) A delegation of four Cuban diplomats is on a two-day trip to Connecticut, in the northeastern United States, on Saturday to exchange viewpoints with residents about Cuba's reality, denounce the US blockade, and promote bilateral ties.

The group is made up of Cuba’s permanent representative at the United Nations, Pedro Luis Pedroso; Ambassador Yuri Gala, Minister Counselor Roberto Hernandez, and Second Secretary Ernesto Sierra, who has a busy schedule consisting of tours of the communities of Hamden, Hartford, Middletown, Willimantic, and New Haven.

According to El Diario Latinoamericano, the Cuban officials are explaining to US public opinion that the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by Washington for more than six decades is still in force and affects the lives of Cubans.

In this regard, officials have expressed gratitude to the cities of Hartford and New Haven and their elected officials for approving resolutions demanding that the US Government end the blockade, as well as to activists who support Cuba.

The guests also meet with local people to analyze how Cuba’s friends can help Havana, for example, through campaigns to remove Cuba from the list of alleged state sponsors of terrorism and to allow the imports of humanitarian goods such as food and medicine.

In addition, they also call for projects for exchange in fields such as education, culture, and sports, and to identify the potential of beneficial businesses for the two countries.

The delegation’s agenda to date also includes meetings with state officials, legislators, mayors, union leaders, representatives of more than 20 organizations, scientists, academics, and other sectors of society.

The No Embargo Cuba Movement (NEMO) arranged for Connecticut General Assembly member Edwin Vargas to send an invitation to the Cuban mission at the United Nations for its main representatives to visit the state and have a goodwill exchange with the city.
