Kabul, Sep 11 (Prensa Latina) Afghanistan has ranked as the most miserable and unhappy country in terms of physical pain, stress and mental disorders caused by poverty, unemployment, anxiety and anger, it was disclosed today.

According to the Gallup´s Negative Experience Index, 80% of Afghans are worried and disturbed, and 74% of poverty-induced mental tensions are caused by unemployment, meanwhile 61% of the population´s state is defined as sad, The Khaama Press news agency reported.

Worry, stress and sadness reached record highs in Afghanistan in 2021, ranking the Central Asian country as the world’s unhappiest nations.

Earlier in an August-September 2021 survey, the Gallup´s Negative Experience Index stated that 53% of Afghans wanted to leave the country.

According to Gallup, 56% of Afghan men and half of Afghan women expressed their interest in leaving the war-torn country for good.

The war, which was fought under the pretext of an alleged crusade against terrorism, cost the US taxpayer over $2 trillion, according to Brown University, and killed hundreds of thousands of Afghan civilians, exodus of 11 million refugees abroad and five million displaced people inside the country.

After a dramatic withdrawal in face of the advance of the Taliban armed group, the U.S. froze $9.4 billion from Afghanistan’s central bank, worsening the Afghan situation as food and fuel prices skyrocketed, millions of people lost their jobs and nearly all financial activities disappeared.
