Most Americans favor age limits for elected officials – Poll

Washington, Sep 12 (Prensa Latina) The majority of Americans across different demographics say they believe age limits should be enforced for elected officials because "our politicians are too old", according to a poll conducted by CBS News.

According to the CBS News poll, nearly three out of four citizens (73%) believe in the need of some kind of age limit to hold office, which is also consistent across political party lines.

Using a national sample of 2,085 U.S. adults in a CBS News poll, 71% of Americans voted in favor of maximum age limits for elected officials, with greater support coming from senior citizens rather than younger adults.

Interestingly, the youngest group in the survey (ages 18-29) is least in favor of age limits (68%), while three-quarters of all other age segments support them.

As for the proposed age limit for elected officials, the most common response among options presented in the survey was 70 years old.

Average age for a senator at the beginning of 2021 was 64.3 years old, the oldest in U.S. history, according to a CNN report.

President Joe Biden is 79; House Speaker Nacy Pelosi is 82; and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer is 71.
