Lebanese Parliament resumes budget session

Parlamento-Libano1
Beirut, Sep 16 (Prensa Latina) The Lebanese Parliament on Friday resumed the plenary session to approve the draft budget for 2022, after two failed attempts and the call for responsibility in the face of the crisis.

Following the controversial debates, Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri convened the budget analysis for today afternoon, one of the laws related to the final agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for its contribution to the implementation of the recovery reforms.

On Thursday, lawmaker Ghada Ayoub emphasized that Lebanon’s draft budget was designed to satisfy the IMF, and the nation needs a comprehensive plan to stop the destruction of the public sector.

On his Twitter account, MP Hassan Murad called for stopping waste and protecting depositors’ money and insisted on the urgency to stop repeating empty words and promises.

MP Elias Jarada stressed that “we should have discussed the 2023 budget, not that of 2022” and highlighted the importance of developing a real economic plan and stopping the migration of Lebanese youth.

According to analysts, the failure to form a government after Najib Mikati’s re-election as prime minister in June, the fragmentation in Parliament, strikes in the public sector, and the worsening of living conditions make the Lebanese political scenario more complex.
