Kenya explains stance on Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic

Nairobi, Sep 19 (Prensa Latina) The Kenyan Government explained in a statement published here on Monday that it maintains its supportive stance in favor of the African Union (AU)'s call to support the free self-determination of the Sahrawi people.

The communiqué, issued by the Foreign Ministry to embassies and international organizations, dismisses a tweet published by the Presidency last week that gave the impression that the Kenyan Government had modified its position to favor the autonomy offered by Morocco.

Kenya’s stance on the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) is in line with the AU’s call and mediation programs for the people of Western Sahara to decide their future.

It added that Kenya also supports the AU’s decision to admit the SADR as a full member in August 1982 and the Pan-African grouping’s Charter which calls for “the unquestionable and inalienable right of the people to self-determination.”
