Death toll from earthquake in Mexico rises to two

Mexico City, Sep 20 (Prensa Latina) The death toll from Monday´s 7.7-magnitude earthquake in Mexico increased to two, and the worst damage was reported in five states, civil protection reported on Tuesday.

The report specified that the deceased are women, and another woman and two minors were injured. Homes, schools, businesses, medical units, offices, churches and bridges were damaged, and there were landslides on highways in the states of Colima, Michoacan, Jalisco and Nayarit.

The governor of Colima, Indira Vizcaino, reported that a woman was killed after the wall of a Coppel store in Manzanillo fell on her.

In that port, the roof of a gymnasium on the top floor of the Punto Bahia shopping center collapsed and killed a woman, whose body was rescued after several hours of work with the support of two dogs.

The earthquake, whose epicenter was in Coalcoman, Michoacan, caused landslides on the Colima-Manzanillo highway, at the height of the area of La Salada, Ixtlahuacan municipality, as well as on the Villa de Alvarez-Minatitlan and Comala-La Becerrera highways, which were partially blocked.

In the city of Colima, authorities reported damage to 11 hospitals and clinics, the state government headquarters, the C5i building, the Cathedral Basilica Menor and the Sendera and Zentralia shopping centers.

In Michoacan, 20 hospitals and health centers, houses, roads and highways in the municipalities of Coalcoman, Aquila and Coahuayana were affected, the coordinator of Civil Protection, Jorge Romero, reported.
